Garth Minto, 23, of Bridgeport, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter with a firearm and possession of a gun without a permit, said Senior Assistant State Attorney Howard Stein.
Minto was scheduled to go to trial Tuesday for his part in the death of Luis Colon who was gunned down during a gun battle between Michael "Smitty" Majors, 24, and Minto on Christmas Eve 2015.
Colon was caught in the crossfire during a trip to the store to pick up some last minute items for his mother, police said. He was crossing State Street eating a bag of Gummy Worms when he was shot in the back.
Surveillance video from the shootout shows both men draw handguns and fire at each other, both missing. It also shows Luis falling onto the street.
Following the plea, Judge Robert Devlin said he would impose a 20-year prison term and five years of special parole, following.
Stein said he had discussed the proposed disposition with the victim’s family.
Minto is scheduled to be sentenced June 22.
Majors was recently sentenced by Devlin to 30 years in prison followed by five years of special parole.
